  • Weft: Mostly hand-dyed 5/2 mercerized cotton from Opalessence; some commercial solid weft colours

Sett: 16epi

Method: Weaving — multishaft floor loom (Louët Spring II)

Completed: February 17, 2025.

This was the first project I did on my brand-spanking new Louët Spring II 12 shaft countermarche loom. Lots of learning!

The warp was pre-wound hand-dyed 3/2 cotton. No particular warping instructions were given, though the insert said there were 192 ends, for 16 inches wide if sett at 12 epi. The weft is hand-dyed 5/2 cotton. Margery Erickson (proprietor) suggested plainweave would be best. That’s not what I did 🙂

I was creatively stuck on 3/1 twill patterns, and with that I opted to sett it at 16epi. I did wind up doing some sampling on my table loom, with other 3/2 cotton warp and 5/2 weft, to confirm I was happy with that approach.

With that, I did 3 table runners, and then had enough left to make a couple of small pieces of fabric for zip bags.

Dimensions on the loom:

  • 12” wide by 5.5yds total warp
  • Each runner was targeted to be about 38″ weaving, plus 6″ at each end for fringe

Dimensions after weaving:

  • Lazy me… I didn’t measure :^)

I’ll note that I shorted the first table runner a bit so that it, and its fringe, would be done before the imminent colour transition to much more turquoise. I did three separate treatments for fringe — the first runner has twisted fringe, the second one has a knotted pattern, and the 3rd one was braided.
