More Turned Twill Dishtowels (2026)

Pattern: A 12 shaft 3/1 Twill (Turned twill)
Yarns:

Warp: 516 ends, including floating selvedges — 6yds
- Valley Cotton 8/2 unmercerized, in various colours
- Brassard 8/2 unmercerized cotton (“old jeans”)
Weft: Various, from warp yarns and other Valley Cotton 8/2 unmercerized colours, and Brassard 8/2 “old jeans”

Sett: 24epi

Method: Weaving — multishaft floor loom (Louet Spring II)

Completed: August 30, 2026.

These are the second set of dishtowels to match up with my “emergency” hand towels completed a few years ago. They use the same colours/yarns, but are flat, in turned twill. They are a second series of turned twill dishtowels to (loosely) follow on from the ones I finished in 2024.

These were woven on my 12 shaft Louet Spring II. A key difference in the patterning is that it meant I could keep the weft stripes from interfering with the warp accent stripes (because more shafts and more treadles for tie up).

Dimensions on the loom:

21.5″ wide by 41” (38” plus 2×1.5” hem; the numbers shown below are for the whole towel and hem together))

Dimensions after weaving:

First towel (cyan weft, trompe l’oeuil):
- Just off the loom: 19.75” x 39.5”
- After wet finishing: 18.75” x 36”
Second towel (light blue weft, trompe l’oeuil):
- Just off the loom: 19.5” x 38.5”
- After wet finishing: 18.25” x 35.5”
Third towel (cyan – dark blue gradient):
- Just off the loom: 19.75” x 38.25”
- After wet finishing: 18.5” x 34”
Fourth towel (pink – burnt sienna gradient):
- Just off the loom: 19.75” x 36.75”
- After wet finishing: 18.75” x 34.25”
