Black Jacket (2009)

drops black jacket closeup Pattern:  Drops pattern #103-1 (for “Eskimo” or “Silke-Alpaca” Drops yarn).

Yarn:
  Briggs & Little “Heritage”
Method:  Hand knit
Completed:  April 3, 2009.

I always like Briggs & Little yarn — it’s very much wool, and therefore slightly scratchy.  But, it has really great “bounce”, and it knits up into something light and warm and sturdy.

Something odd occurred here, though — the post-project row gauge is different from what I had gotten in my test swatch (which also had been washed and dried before measuring).  This means the jacket is 2 – 3″ shorter than it should be.  I do think it would be better at the original length.   Oddly — I don’t think the sleeves shortened as much.  I’ll have to see if re-washing and blocking more carefully (to stretch the length) helps at all.

Also, if I had it to do again, I would probably not keep the exaggerated flare at the bottom of the sweater (at least, not unless I had a very drapey yarn and expected it to just … drape).
