Jeans Socks (2007)

Jeans Socks
Pattern:  Wendy's Toe-Up, using a broken version of Barbara Walker's Wicker Work pattern in the ankle
Yarn:  Artyarns Ultra Merino 4, grey/blue
Method:  Handknit
Completed:  June 30, 2007.

You can see why I'm calling these "Jeans Socks" -- the colours match well with jeans!

This is a pretty generic toe-up sock, but I broke out of my feather-and-fan mold and tried a Barbara Walker stitch pattern (Wicker Work, Second Treasury).  Unfortunately, I made a mistake in transcribing the pattern from Barbara Walker's words to a chart, and I was well underway in knitting before discovering the mistake.  The result looked reasonably okay, anyhow.  So, I'm calling it "barley sheaves" ;-)

Two matched socks
A pair of socks -- yes, the same size (this is a surprise? ;-) ).
BarleySheaves-Detail
Ankle detail -- what I'm calling "barley sheaves", and what is actually a mistaken transcription of Barbara Walker's Wicker Work stitch pattern from the "Second Treasury".  No, I'm not going to tell you that the error is the 1st & 7th rows are inverted (knits/purls).
Heel
Heel detail -- short-rowed, no gusset.
Toe
Toe detail -- provisional cast-on & short-rowing.  Note the variation in the striping because of the short rows.
